Robbers make off with 70 generators...

DELTA Supply Company, located at 102 Hagley Park Road in Kingston, reported yesterday that thieves broke into its warehouse between February 25 and 26, stealing goods valued at more than $8 million.

General manager Montclair King said among the items stolen were a large quantity of electrical generators.
King said that the thieves cut the lock to a metal gate to gain entry to the compound before they cut the locks to several containers, which stored the generators.

He believes that there must have been more than three persons on location, for them to move such quantity of heavy equipment.

"A total of 70 or more of these generators were stolen, which require at least three to four people to lift one unit," King told the Observer yesterday.

The company's general manager, however, accused the police of being tardy in their investigations into the theft.
"We have received very poor response from the police, very poor. We are not pleased by their actions or lack thereof," said King.

Senior officers investigating the theft could not be reached yesterday....
