March 02, 2006
THE LINSTEAD Police in St Catherine have seized their third illegal weapon from the hands of criminals since the start of the year.
In the latest incident, a man was taken into custody on charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition. He also faces the additional charge of being in possession of an offensive weapon as a knife was found on him.
ROBBERY
According to Inspector Clive Blair, the Linstead police, acting on information they received about 12:25 a.m. Tuesday, about a robbery that was in progress, went to the Rosemount area of the parish.
When they arrived on the scene, three men were seen at the community centre, two of whom ran. The third man was held and searched and a 9mm Beretta pistol with serial number erased, a magazine and five rounds were taken from him.
He was taken into custody and charged with breaches of the Firearms Act.
Inspector Blair said the police would be going all out to rid the Linstead area of all criminal activities by employing a zero-tolerance approach.
