Shootings disrupt Spanish Town again

March 30, 2006

TWO men carrying high-powered weapons yesterday went on a shooting spree at the Spanish Town bus terminus, leaving two people dead and one hospitalised.

The town was thrown into turmoil as businesses pulled down their shutters, while bus and taxi operators abandoned the terminus, leaving commuters to scramble for safety.

The police said last night that they took a suspect in custody into connection with the shooting and killing. His name has been withheld, pending charges.

One of the dead was identified as Craig Brown, a 21 year-old higgler of Spanish Town. The other, a woman, was not identified.

The official police report from the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) said that the shooting took place at about 3:20 in the afternoon.

Sources told the Observer that the shooting began when members of the notorious One Order gang went to the bus terminus, headquarters of the Clansman gang, where there was a feud over control of the terminus, where a lucrative extortion racket is run by gangsters.
