Unpaid bills leave Port Maria police without phone service

THE PORT Maria Police Station has had its telephone services disconnected, for over two weeks, for non-payment of bills.
According to a police officer there, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) administrative branch is the one responsible for the payment of bills.
The blame game has begun, as members of staff at the station try to figure out whether the unfortunate circumstance is due to the inefficiencies of the JCF administration, or the limited funds provided by the Govern-ment, which they say will only be sorted out in the coming financial year, leaving the police station without service until then.
EFFICIENCY HAMPERED
According to Constable Edward Campbell, "This has hampered the efficiency of the staff, as even though we can receive calls and we respond to these calls as best as we can, we have had to resort to using our own cellphones in making calls out when necessary."
Deputy Superintendent of Police Crosdale told The Gleaner that Port Maria Police Station is not the only station in the division that suffers from this problem. "There are other stations affected such as Castleton, Annotto Bay, Belfield, Richmond and Oracabessa." He said he is not sure of when the service will be restored.
