Two robbers killed in shoot-out with 'Bigga' Ford

TWO ROBBERS who held up several customers at a business establishment off Red Hills Road, St. Andrew, yesterday were shot and killed in a shoot-out with veteran street cop, Deputy Superintendent Cornwall 'Bigga' Ford.
DSP Ford who spoke with The Gleaner shortly after the incident said he had gone to an electrical appliance store on Red Hills Road to make a purchase.
SHOUTS FOR HELP
While returning to his car, he heard shouts of people crying for help.
"I saw a group of people on an upstairs building and they were shouting out 'thief, thief, murder'," said DSP Ford.
The officer said his view was partially blocked by a truck that was parked in the vicinity.
But, by the time he walked past the truck, he saw two men running towards him, one with a gun in hand and the other with a knife.
"I shouted out to them: 'Drop it, police'. The one with the gun then opened fire," said Supt. Ford.
During the confrontation, the one with knife was shot, while the other with the gun attempted to run from the scene.
However, DSP Ford got on his two-way radio and called for reinforcement. His colleagues responded within minutes.
SECOND CONFRONTATION
The gunman was killed during a second confrontation with the police. A .38 revolver was taken from the deceased and a bag with an undetermined sum of money was recovered. Up to late yesterday evening the identity of the robbers were yet to be ascertained.
In the meantime, Acting Assistant Commissioner Gran-ville Gause said the Bureau of Special Investigation has begun investigating the incident.
