JP to appear in Gun Court June 2

May 24, 2006

BRYAN Jacas, a businessman and St Andrew Justice of the Peace who allegedly pulled his licensed firearm on a couple, will appear in the Gun Court on Friday, June 2.

Allegations against Jacas are that on Tuesday, May 2, he went to a home in Grants Pen, St Andrew, and during a dispute, pulled his licensed firearm and pointed it at a woman and her husband.

The matter was reported to the Constant Spring police, who after investigating the allegation, last week charged Jacas.
Police say Jacas, who is also the community action coordinator for the Dispute Resolution Foundation, maintained that he drew his licensed firearm in self-defence after he went to the couple's home to speak to them on a private matter.

He appeared in the Half-Way-Tree Criminal Court on May 19, where he pleaded not guilty, and the resident magistrate transferred the case to the Gun Court, where he is to appear on June 2.

Police say Jacas, who holds positions of vice-chairman of Community Policing Management Committee in Grants Pen and the Constant Spring Consultative Committee, argued that he pointed his gun towards the ground during the incident.
