A man is facing multiple charges in the Half-Way-Tree Resident Magistrate's Court after allegedly using forged cheques to purchase hardware material.
Andrew Grant, of White Wing Avenue in Kingston 11, is charged with unlawful possession of a blank cheque, conspiracy to defraud and causing the bank to pay out money by forged documents.
According to court documents, on April 6 an officer went to Tools Hardware & Supplies Limited, where Grant was seen in the custody of officers from the Cross Roads Police. He was said to be one of two men who purchased hardware material and loaded them on to a truck.
The purchases, according to the court documents, were allegedly made via forged cheques, through a bank transfer.
Grant was later taken by the police to his room at White Wing Avenue, and during a search of the room a blank cheque was found in his dresser drawer. When asked Grant, allegedly admitted to owning the cheque.
The cheque was later taken to a National Commercial Bank branch at 2 Oxford Road, Kingston 5, where the bank manager produced six copies of similar forged cheques. Grant was subsequently arrested and charged.
