Injured woman constable still in hospital
June 06, 2006
THE woman constable who was shot and injured during a robbery on a passenger bus in Gregory Park, St Catherine, on Saturday is still in hospital. Her condition was said to be stable.
According to the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN), shortly after 8:00 Saturday night, the constable was on a passenger bus in the Gregory Park area when on reaching a section of the main road, a male passenger requested a stop.
He alighted from the bus, pulled a handgun and demanded the constable's handbag. When his request was not met, he opened fire hitting her. He then ran off with her bag containing $110,000. The injured cop was taken to hospital.
On Sunday another constable, Lincoln Parker, was shot dead by gunmen as he partied with friends at a street dance in Dela Vega City, Spanish Town.
Both attacks came in the wake of Police Commissioner Lucius Thomas' warning to police officers on Thursday in Trelawny against the use of brute force when dealing with civilians. He told officers to "desist now or face the consequences".
