Flankers Double Murder Trial

THE FLANKERS murder case began yesterday in the Home Circuit Court with Superintendent Derrick 'Cowboy' Knight testifying that a police party went to Flankers, St James, just under three years ago because they had warrants for murder and illegal possession of firearm for a Christopher Hyman.
Woman Constable Bibzie Foster and four policemen are on trial for the murder of 63-year-old taxi operator David Bacchas and 63-year-old newspaper vendor Cecil Brown.
A third person, 54-year-old Audrey Stephens, was shot and injured during the incident on October 25, 2003 in Flankers.
The other policemen are Special Constable Metro McFarlane, Constables Kevin Williams, Kadian Smith and Donald Thomas.
Paula Llewellyn, Senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, told the 12-member jury that the Crown is contending when the two men were killed, "nobody in the car in which they were travelling was firing at anybody".
Justice Kay Beckford is presiding at the trial.
BARRAGE OF GUNSHOTS
Supt. Knight said that while they were in Flankers, he received a signal and he and other policemen took cover. He immediately heard a barrage of gunshots. During the shooting, he said a motor car drove past him and then stopped beside a utility pole. When the shooting subsided, Supt. Knight said he went toward the car and saw two men in the front seats; they were not moving and appeared to be wounded....
