Alleged murderers denied bail

Twenty-three-year-old Harold Berbick, who is charged jointly with another man for the murder of former heavyweight boxing champion Trevor Berbick, was denied bail on Friday.
The two suspects, Berbick, who is a nephew of the deceased, and 18-year-old Kenton Gordon, appeared in, the Buff Bay Resident Magistrates' Court and were remanded until their new court date of December 20.
Resident Magistrate Andrea Collins dismissed the bail application and told attorney Carl McDonald she would submit in writing the reasons why bail has been denied at this time. When the two appeared in court on November 17, Berbick was instructed by Judge Collins to under go a psychiatric evaluation based on recommendation put forward by medical doctors.
In the meantime, Gordon has retained the services of legal aid attorney, Keith Bishop. No bail was sought for him by his attorney. Both murder suspects are from the district of Norwich in Portland, hometown of the former World Boxing Council heavyweight champion, who was allegedly killed by them.
The boxer's body was found near his home at 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, with four chop wounds to the back of his head. He was 54 years old at the time of his death and was the last man to fight and defeat the legendary Muhammed Ali.
