Thirty-five-year-old Shorn Samuel will reappear in court next week in connection with the public beheading of a woman on Tuesday.
Samuel, who also goes by his adopted Muslim name of Abdul Rahim Parsons, appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate Court on Thursday as scores of vocal onlookers filled the courtyard, forcing police to boost their presence at the court.
Magistrate Donald Browne read him the charge and remanded him to prison.
Acting Director of Public Prosecution Colin Williams said a preliminary inquiry was expected to take place within three months to determine whether Samuels had a case to answer.
Members of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Women Rights Organisation also staged a protest outside the courthouse as Samuel was being escorted to the court.
Stacy Wilson, a 21-year-old hospital worker, was dragged from a minibus and killed in the presence of scores of onlookers at a bus terminus in the capital, Tuesday.
