Breakthrough in Lyns' abduction - One arrested, other still being sought
December 17, 2006
The police last night captured Kevin Powell, one of two men who are implicated in the abduction of Richard and Julia Lyn from their Ingleside home in Mandeville last Sunday. The other man, Lenox Swaby is still being sought.
In addition, the police recovered a car and several other items missing from the couple's home, following a pre-dawn raid yesterday.
The raid was conducted by a combined team of police from the Area three flying squad, the Major Investigation Task Force and the Manchester police.
Deputy Superintedent of Police Cleon Marsh said the vehicle, a Toyota Rav 4, was recovered by the police following its involvement in a hit and run accident in Mandeville.
"The Rav 4 has subsequently been sent to the police forensic laboratory in Kingston for testing," DSP Marsh said.
A number of missing household items and furniture were also recovered during the raid, the police said believed to belong to the couple.
The Lyns have been missing since last week night after their Ingleside, Manchester home was ransacked and several appliances stolen, as well as their two vehicles - a grey Toyota Rav 4, registered 2694 ES, and a grey Toyota Corolla station wagon, licensed 5540 EU - were taken.
DSP Marsh said he was optimistic the couple would be found alive.
"We are getting energised by these recoveries and we'll just be renewing and redoubling our efforts at this time," he said. Last week Crime Stop offered a $1 million reward for information leading to the return of the couple.
