Another 300 pounds of ganja seized

February 23, 2007

POLICE from the St. Catherine South Division, on Wednesday, seized over 300 pounds of compressed ganja in the Hellshire area of the parish.

A statement from the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) said the weed was confiscated at 2:15 a.m. along the Hellshire main road.

According to the CCN, it was discovered in a Toyota Corolla car that had broken a stoplight. After the car's driver stopped, it was searched and the weed, in compressed form, found in a number of plastic rice bags.

The police arrested the driver and another man in connection with the find.

It is the latest ganja bust by police in recent times. The biggest took place on January 30 at Goodwill Avenue, in east Kingston, where 15,000 pounds were seized.

Police said it was the second biggest ganja catch for the constabulary in the past 11 years. No arrests were made then.

Two weeks later, another 5,000 pounds of ganja was confiscated by police, in Clarendon.
