Wife faces murder charge

February 28, 2007

A woman was taken into custody by the Green Island police in Hanover yesterday morning following the death of her husband, who died from machete wounds.

Facing a charge of murder is 31-year-old Charmane Chambers, housewife, of March Town, near Green Island, while dead is 36-year-old Anthony Chambers, also called 'Stranger' and 'Stay', a constructionworker, of the same address.

Dispute

Detective Inspector David Ebanks, crime officer in charge of Hanover, told The Gleaner that about 4:45 Tuesday morning, the Chambers had a dispute, during which a machete was brought into play. Mr. Chambers received chop wounds to both sides of his neck and his left jaw, while Mrs. Chambers received injuries to her head, mouth and left index finger.

Chambers died at the Noel Holmes General Hospital in Lucea, while undergoing treatment.

Clarence Chambers, father of the deceased, said his son, who frequently abused his wife, was fighting with her on Monday night.
