Vehicles loaded with ganja found, four held

March 17, 2007

SANTA CRUZ, St. Elizabeth: The police in St. Elizabeth have made another huge drug bust after they recovered two motor vehicles loaded with ganja and arrested four men in the parish Thursday night.

According to the Santa Cruz police, about 8:00 p.m, police from the Santa Cruz division and the Area Three Narcotics Squad were on operation in the Santa Cruz area when they signalled two motor vehicles to stop in Top Burnt Ground in the parish.

The vehicles were a white mini bus driven by Etos Keith otherwise called 'Cappo' of Port Antonio, Portland and a blue Nissan station wagon driven by Lindell Wilson, also called 'Sneaky', taxi driver of Roland?s Field district, St. Thomas and Providence Pen, Kingston 10.

Under fire

The men alighted from the vehicles and allegedly opened fire at the police who returned the fire. The men reportedly ran into nearby bushes where they were later held by the lawmen.

A subsequent search of the vehicles yielded vegetable matter resembling ganja weighing over 1,000 pounds. The men were taken into custody by the police pending further investigation.

About half an hour later, the Santa Cruz police went back into the community where they observed a white Toyota Corolla transporting an injured man. On investigation, it was revealed that the two men were transporting a man who was shot earlier during the shooting with the police. The injured man escaped on the approach of the police, but the other two were held.
