Big ganja bust in Spanish Town

The police in Spanish Town have made another major breakthrough in the illicit drug trade, seizing approximately 500 lb of compressed ganja and taking two persons into custody in connection with the find.
According to head of the St. Catherine North Division, Supt. Harry Daley, approximately 5:30 a.m., police personnel, acting on information, proceeded to a house at 36 Old Harbour Road and during a search 92 packages with compressed vegetable matter resembling ganja were found wrapped in cellophane tape.

"We believe that thevalue of this drug is about $2 million so it must have hurt where it hurt most for persons connected to the drugs," said Superintendent Daley.
He went on to add that the police would be continuing its all-out approach as it is understood the drug trade is being used to fund other illegal activities, such as the acquisition of guns, and that all efforts would be made, despite the limited resources, to go at the major players.
It is the third major drug find in the parish of St. Catherine in the last three weeks, with other seizures made in the Port Esquivel area of Old Harbour last month.
The operation was undertaken by a special team of policemen in tandem with the intelligence arm of the police force.
