Still no charge in Cooreville accident

A funeral service for Abby-Gail Lugg is scheduled for tomorrow but no one has yet been charged for the auto collision that claimed her life and that of Lori-Ann Townsend last month.
The crash, which took place on May 29, occurred on Washington Boulevard, near the Cooreville Gardens and Duhaney Park intersection in the Corporate Area.
Corporal Winston Brooks, of the Duhaney Park police station, told The Gleaner yesterday that neither bus driver Flavious Foulkes nor the driver of the car, Rhoan Dawkins, has been charged as investigations are still ongoing.
A Toyota coaster bus, driven by 30-year-old Foulkes, was heading for Spanish Town when it collided with a red Honda Civic motor car, driven by Dawkins, 27, that was exiting the Cooreville Gardens neighbourhood. The bus mowed down several commuters who were standing at a bus stop, killing Abby-Gail and Lori-Ann.
Foulkes has been released from hospital while Dawkins is still under medical care.
Corporal Brooks said Dawkins' current medical state is one of the primary reasons the investigation is being hampered.
"Last week when he was visited in hospital he was not responding. He was not unconscious but unable to have a conversation," said Corporal Brooks.
No one held responsible
Still, Abby-Gail's mother, Diane Morris, is upset that no one has been held responsible for her daughter's death.
"I feel hurt," Miss Morris said. "It come like she was an animal and nobody care."
Abby-Gail, 10, was a student of Greater Portmore Primary school in St. Catherine and the winner of last year's Optimist International Oratorical Competition for her essay, 'My Future is Bright Because'
In an excerpt from her essay she said: "My future is bright because of my positive attitude towards life and learning. I am ambitious, resilient and up for any challenge. These qualities I know will help me to achieve the right future I dream of day and night."
