Labourer nails appeal

The man who was jailed in May for unlawful possession of several pounds of used and unused nails was yesterday granted bail by the Court of Appeal.
He is Wayne Malcolm, 26, labourer, of Baulk district, Hanover.
Justice Mahadev Dukharan, after hearing an application in chambers from attorney-at-law Melrose Reid, granted Malcolm bail in the sum of $70,000 with one or two sureties.
Some residents in Hanover expressed disapproval when Malcolm was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment at hard labour. They complained that the sentence was too harsh because people who committed more serious crimes were fined. The residents also complained that Malcolm had no previous conviction.
He is also contending that the sentence is manifestly excessive.
