Principal to take dismissal to Appeal Court
August 01, 2007
After a 10-month court battle with the Ministry of Education and Youth over a decision to replace Derrick Wilson as provisional principal of the Maldon High School in St. James, the Supreme Court yesterday ruled against rescinding the decision.
Mr. Wilson, who appealed the ministry's decision to boot him in September 2006, told The Gleaner that he would be taking the matter to the Court of Appeal as he feels he was not treated fairly.
"I'm going to take this to the Appeal Court because it was an unfair decision, and this shows a level of corruption and political manipulation in high places," he said.
Protests
The educator, whose removal triggered protests by students and parents at the start of the 2006/2007 school year, vowed to take the matter as far as the U.K.-based Privy Council, if necessary.
According to Mr. Wilson, Justice Marva McIntosh did not deal with "natural justice", totally disregarding the arguments put forward by his attorney, Hugh Wilson.
