Police charge three accused in Rockfort murders
November 13, 2007
THE police yesterday charged three men in connection with the recent murders in the volatile East Kingston community of Rockfort.
The three, the police alleged, are involved in one of three sets of murders on Friday, October 5 in which a total of seven persons were killed during early morning attacks.
They have been identified as:
. Twenty-year-old Marvin Blake;
. Stephen McCarthy, 35; and
. Jermaine Currie, 27;
All three were charged for the murders of 27-year-old Marlon Hurd, Shaneta Smith, 18, and their four-month-old daughter, Lorna J Hurd at their home at 12 Norman Crescent.
The men are set to appear before the courts on November 16.
Yesterday, Superintendent Assan Thompson of the Kingston East division, while praising officers responsible for the arrests, said the breakthrough was in no way a reason for them to become complacent.
"Rockfort is of a volcanic nature, so at anytime it can erupt, hence a lid has to be kept on things," the superintendent told the Observer.
"Police presence is still high in the area," he added.
