Kidnap victims freed - Flying Squad kills abductor, detains six

Two brothers who were kidnapped on Monday night are now safe, after the police rescued them from an unknown fate in separate operations yesterday.
The brothers, who are from the Maverley area of St. Andrew were kidnapped abut 10:00 p.m. and taken to premises on Kenton Avenue, Kingston 20, where they were being held for ransom.
Detectives from the Flying Squad and the Half-Way Tree Police Station, acting on information, went to a financial institution in Kingston where one of the kidnappers was in the process of withdrawing $500,000 from one of the victim's accounts. The police were able to hold on to the kidnapper and rescue the victim.
The police then moved to a house on Kenton Avenue where they were met with heavy gunfire. The fire was returned and one man was shot and injured. He was later pronounced dead at hospital.
Guns seized
Two guns were seized by the police, a .38 revolver and a 9mm pistol, along with a quantity of ammunition. Six persons, including a female, have been detained and interrogated. Investigations are ongoing as the police are looking for other individuals.
Head of the Kingston-based Flying Squad, Deputy Superintendent Cornwall 'Bigga' Ford, has issued a stern warning to all kidnappers.
"Me just want send a warning to people who are trying to perpetuate this kidnapping thing, that the Flying Squad is all over the place and we will respond to any threat to any citizen, anywhere in the island, and we are coming and we are serving."
This incident comes two weeks after a young couple was kidnapped, murdered and their bodies dumped in the bushes of Mount Salus, Red Hills, in St. Andrew.
