Members of PSC dismissed

December 12, 2007

Governor-General, Professor Kenneth Hall, acting on the recommendation of Prime Minister Bruce Golding, yesterday issued letters of dismissal to the members of the Public Service Commission (PSC).

The Gleaner has learned that an application will be filed in the Supreme Court today for leave to go to the Judicial Review Court to quash the decision to fire the members.

Loggerheads

The Government and the PSC have been at loggerheads since the PSC recommended the appointment of Professor Stephen Vasciannie to be the new Solicitor General.

It is being alleged that the Government favours Deputy Solicitor General Douglas Leys for the job.

In the meantime, Deputy Solicitor General, Patrick Foster Q.C., has been appointed to act as Solicitor General.
