Cops kill 'dangerous' Newlands criminal
December 13, 2007
A man, described as a dangerous criminal, was Tuesday shot dead in an alleged confrontation with the police at Westchester in Portmore, St Catherine.
The man, Wayne Anderson, 24, alias 'Chopsy Boy', resided at Newlands, a tough community in the municipality of Portmore.
According to the constabulary, Anderson was shot dead when he fired at a team of police and soldiers who were on patrol on Texas Drive in Westchester. A 9mm Beretta pistol with two live rounds was taken from him, the police said.
Head of the St Catherine South Police Division, Superintendent Terrence Bent, said Anderson was a "menace to the society".
Said Bent: "He was a dangerous criminal who showed a propensity to deadly force and violence. He was a member of a deadly gang based in that community (Newlands)."
Anderson, said the police, was wanted for the murder of Shakira Lacey, a 20-year-old higgler, who was burnt to death after her house was firebombed and peppered with bullets in October. He was also fingered in the murder of Merval White, who was shot dead at a bar in Newlands the same night.
Anderson was also a suspect in a murder committed in St Ann earlier this year.
