Nesbeth to report to police

January 14, 2008

Three days after a resident magistrate issued a bench warrant for the arrest of a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) caretaker, the Linstead police say they have not been able to contact her.

On Friday, Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green ordered that a warrant be issued for the arrest of the JLP candidate for North West St. Catherine, Dr. Sandra Nesbeth, after she failed to attend court to answer to several charges.

However, the police say they have received word from Dr. Nesbeth's attorney that she will report to the station today.

The resident magistrate said the failure of Dr. Nesbeth to attend court was an insult to the bench.

The charges - tampering with a crime scene, assault at common law, obstruction and assaulting the police - arose from an incident on November 17 last year.

In that incident gunmen allegedly shot and killed Durrant McBean in Linstead and injured another man.

Dr. Nesbeth allegedly went to the scene and picked up spent shells which were forcibly retrieved by the police after she refused to cooperate with them.
