Cop on sex rap heads to court
Police Constable Richard Pearce is to appear in the Yallahs Resident Magistrate's Court tomorrow when the preliminary inquiry into a carnal abuse charge against him will continue.
The Crown is alleging that, in December last year, Pearce, who was stationed at the Yallahs Police Station, offered a 13-year-old girl a ride while she was on her way from school. He took the girl to a lonely area where he sexually assaulted her.
The matter was reported to the police and statements were collected and submitted to the director of public prosecutions who ruled that Pearce should be charged.
After Pearce was arrested and charged, it was further alleged that relatives of the girl were approached in an effort to stop the case from proceeding in court.
Pearce and Donald Walker, also called 'Ice', contractor and farmer of Spring Gardens, St Thomas, were arrested and charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
