Increased fines for labour breaches
June 10, 2008
Companies and individuals who breach the Employment Termination and Redundancy Act 2008 will face increased fines, as the House of Representatives last week approved amendments to the law.
Amendments to the legislation will also allow the Resident Magistrate's Court to adjudicate on matters relating to redundancy entitlement not exceeding $1 million.
Labour and Social Security Minister Pearnel Charles said the legislation was being amended to make it mandatory for employers to provide information, in writing, to the relevant minister concerning dismissal through redundancy.
