Lawyer wants probe into alleged beatings by police

June 13, 2008

The lawyer for a man detained by police in connection with an alleged plot to assassinate Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, says he has told her he is innocent and that threats had been made against his life while in police custody.

Attorney-at-law Kay Bacchus-Browne has described her client, Antonio 'Que Pasa' Gellizeau, as a seaman and businessman, who was detained on the weekend by the police.

She read a letter from her client saying that he was picked up by police, tortured and threatened and accused of being part of the assassination plot against the prime minister.
