Jamaican on US most-wanted list held

June 19, 2008

A Jamaican man on America's 15-most-wanted list was arrested in Hill Run at Spanish Town, St Catherine, yesterday.

David Jason Clarke, also known as 'David McDermott', 'Andrew Gayle', 'Biggs' and 'Bigboy', was held by members of the Fugitive Apprehension Team during a joint police/military operation.

The 26-year-old Clarke is wanted for murder in the United States.

It is alleged that, on June 16 last year, Clarke shot and killed a common-law couple at 16th Court, Lauderhill, Florida.

Bodies abandoned

The bodies were placed in the trunk of a car and taken to the city of Sunrise where the vehicle was abandoned in a parking lot.

Clarke reportedly fled to Jamaica shortly after.

The US authorities then issued an arrest warrant for Clarke for two counts of first degree murder.

He was arrested about 5:30 yesterday morning on a provisional warrant and is expected to appear in the Corporate Area Criminal Court for an extradition hearing soon.
