Education Law Online
The area of the law pertaining to schools, school systems and school boards is called Education Law. The laws impose a set of general principles that determine the disciplinary process, which a public school must follow. Most schools handle disciplinary issues informally through the use of time outs or in-school suspensions to avoid impinging on the students’ access to an education. However out-of-school suspensions are on the increase as “zero tolerance” policies have been adopted. This scenario makes Education Law even more important, as the access to education is a protected right. Therefore, a student who is at risk of an out-of-school suspension must be given due process (a fair and just proceeding) before the suspension takes place.
